Unlike other brands entering the market, Matilde was met with high expectations from the start. The reason for this is the legendary master blender José Seijas, who spent over 40 years as Vice President and General Manager at the world’s largest cigar manufacturer, overseeing the production of more than 60 million cigars annually. During his time at Tabacalera de García, he developed several successful, well-known blends.
With this immense potential and wealth of experience, he teamed up with his son Enrique in 2014, after his retirement, to found Matilde.

At Tabacalera Palma, only rollers who smoke cigars themselves are employed for the production process. For Seijas, this is a fundamental requirement to ensure seamless quality control. Only the part of the tobacco leaves without strong veins is used. This not only improves the visual appeal but also ensures a consistent burn.
Such attention to detail, combined with impressive skill in selecting top-quality tobaccos and José’s blending expertise, earned Matilde 92 points and a spot in the Top 25 in Cigar Aficionado in the same year the brand debuted—a true mark of distinction.
Since then, the brand has been continuously expanded with various series. Each one, in its own right, surprises with a diverse play of flavors. Both enthusiasts of rich, full-bodied blends and those who prefer a more subtle experience will find something to their liking.
It’s reassuring to know that with José, an era doesn’t come to an end, but rather his craftsmanship and knowledge have already been passed on to the next generation. Enrique, like his father, is passionately involved in the cigar business and equally talented, promising a great future and many more exceptional cigars.
