In 1976, Michael Kohlhase laid the foundation for a company that has become one of the most successful in the German premium tobacco industry. It came to this thanks to his feel for trends and his foresight. Before the great cigar boom of the 1990s swept from the USA to Germany, Michael recognized this as an opportunity and secured numerous exclusive distribution deals, focusing on cigar brands from the Caribbean. Even back then, he predicted that the Caribbean would be highly valuable.
After his death in 2000, Adam and Daniel Kohlhase took over the operational management of Kohlhase & Kopp and continued to expand the company and its sales. At the zenith of their business success, the two brothers left the company Kohlhase & Kopp at the end of 2022 in order to be able to implement their visions and ideas for the future without restrictions. Michael Kohlhase and, as his successors, Adam and Daniel have had a decisive influence on the tobacco industry for over 40 years – and there is no end in sight.
Identity
Tobacco is in our blood. We literally grew up with it and learned the business from one of the greatest pioneers of the premium tobacco industry: Michael Kohlhase. The initials M. K. go back to our father Michael Kohlhase, who played a leading role in shaping the tobacco industry and passed on his passion for tobacco to us.
M. K. & Söhne is 100% owned by the Kohlhase family. As an owner-managed company, we are not dependent on any external managing director. This is a significant competitive advantage because we do not run the risk that our company know-how depends on, falls on, or leaves with an external managing director.
Our know-how is a fixed constant and the basis of M. K. & Söhne. It is the result of hard work and intuition paired with objective market analysis, tireless commitment, and, one thing above all: passion.

Like our father, we are Hanseatic through and through. We stand by our word. A handshake has more meaning to us than a contract. That may sound old-fashioned, but the true values behind it are just as important today as they were in the past:
